Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has announced the opening of its new facility in Adelaide, South Australia. Marking a major expansion for the company’s materials and minerals business, the state-of-the-art facility significantly increases Thermo Fisher Scientific’s manufacturing footprint in the region. The new building replaces an existing facility and consolidates analyzer production operations in Adelaide.
Thermo Fisher Scientific president and chief executive officer Marijn E. Dekkers said, “We are excited about expanding capacity here in Adelaide in response to extraordinary demand for our inline analysis technologies in emerging markets, particularly Asia and South America. By tapping the deep pool of local skill and talent, we look forward to building on our growth and presence in this region."
Thermo Fisher Scientific’s materials and minerals business in Adelaide will manufacture cross-belt analyzers, integrated sampling and analysis stations, multi-stream analyzers and belt scales, supporting a range of industries from cement and coal to plastics and paint. The custom, modern building supports the growing demand for minerals by bolstering the company’s production capabilities in a lean manufacturing environment. Productivity programs such as 5S and PPI will be incorporated into all procedures, helping to shorten lead times, reduce waste, optimize productivity and increase performance consistency.
