:: Free Online Tools for Comminution Engineers

SMC Testing has recently launched a number of free online tools for comminution engineers.

The calculators, available freely to the public on the SMC Testing website, enable comminution engineers to predict mill power draw and total comminution circuit specific energy. An additional resource is also available to visualise the SMC Test® global distribution, in an interactive map of where over 32,000 SMC Tests have been completed.

“The tools are based on public equations available in the academic literature," commented Dr Stephen Morrell, President of SMC Testing, “however, we’ve put them together on our site as a more user friendly method of predicting power draw and total comminution circuit specific energy”.

“If engineers find these tools useful, we plan to add more to the site over time”, added Steve.

SMC Testing was founded in 2004 and has conducted over 32000 tests to date, making it the most widely-used comminution test in the world for AG & SAG Mills, HPGRs and Crushers.

The SMC Test® is available commercially through a world-wide network of over 30 independent labs in Europe, Australia, North America, South America, China, Russia, Asia and Africa. In-house licenses are also held by a number of major mining companies such as Anglo American, Barrick, Newmont Mining, Teck and Freeport-McMoRan.

Dr Steve Morrell is a minerals processing engineer with over 30 years of specialist experience in the resources industry. Steve has been involved in the circuit design of the majority of major comminution circuits internationally, through which he has established himself as a world leading expert in comminution design and optimisation.
