:: $700M Clean Resources Supercluster - Canada Innovation Collaborative Announced

Important development for Canadian and global mining - The Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) has announced a full application for a clean resources Supercluster. The work would inject $700M investment and involve 162 partners across Canada. Canada's mining sector united to put forward this clean resources Supercluster application. Part of the Government of Canada's Innovation Superclusters Initiative, the CLEER (Clean, Low-Energy, Effective, Engaged and Remediated) Supercluster was prepared collaboratively on behalf of the mining sector by CMIC, CEMI, CIMRE, COREM, IMII and MSTA.

This collaboration builds on a vibrant, existing mining innovation ecosystem. CMIC is proactively working towards a goal to "transform mining towards a zero waste industry", setting new benchmarks and targets for industry and providing resources for mining to strive towards significant outcomes.

CMIC's Press Release stated "If successful in the final application process, the CLEER Supercluster will provide widespread economic benefits across Canada, with the potential of creating more than 38,000 new, direct high-paying jobs and training opportunities within the cluster (>100,000 jobs including indirect sectors), anticipated GDP contribution exceeding $26B after five years, plus an additional 8,000 jobs and $21B in ripple effect impacts throughout Canada."

A decision on the initiative is expected in early 2018. Contacts, statement and CMIC website announcement available at: ceecthefuture.org/best-practice/canada-announces-exciting-united-700m-clean-resources-supercluster-cleer-application/
