:: Work Commences at Metso Park in India

The ground breaking ceremony (also known as Bhumi Pujan) on October 1 officially paved the way for the new 49-acre multi-functional industrial facility in Alwar, Rajasthan in India. Metso is investing 30 million euros over a period of two years to establish this industrial park in India. The facility will be fully operational by the year 2010 giving an opportunity for employment to around 700 people. This follows the ongoing expansion programs in India with foundry and factory operations in Ahmedabad and Bawal respectively that were cocluded in August this year.

Metso Park will include office premises, several workshops, warehousing, and a logistics center. The facility will initially cater to meet the rapid growth in demand for Metso's products and services in India. However, it will also help meet sourcing demands of Metso companies in other countries. Through the facility, Metso aims to enhance its offering to customers in India, its logistics, inventory control, operational quality, productivity and supplier relationships as well.

The new facility will host, both, Metso's own new operations as well as selected key suppliers. Metso will have three to five partners of Indian and European origin operating out of Metso Park. The partners will establish their own workshops at the Metso site and will benefit from the infrastructure services provided. Metso Park will initially manufacture components of mobile crushing and screening plants, conveyors, slurry pumps and rubber products for the construction and mining customers in India and for export.

The ground breaking ceremony was performed in the presence of Matti Kähkönen and senior management from Metso Minerals India. Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included top officials from state government and RIICO (Rajasthan Industrial Investment Corporation). On the occasion, Indian religious rituals were performed and prayers were offered to Hindu deities to bring prosperity and success to the venture.

Matti Kähkönen underlined his confidence in India by saying: "India's developing infrastructure sector provides us an excellent opportunity and we are pleased to establish Metso Park here. The India market is an important part of our global strategy and we are determined to establish a strong presence here. This industrial park concept is the first of its kind for Metso and represents a milestone in our growth strategy."

Sudhir Srivastava, Senior Vice President, Metso Minerals, India, said, "This is a significant step toward achieving our goals in the India market and a clear sign of Metso’s commitment to the country. This is an exciting time for us. Metso Park will not only cater to the demand of the Indian customers but will also help meet demands of other Metso customers through exports in Asia."
