:: SME 2017 Guide to Mining Schools

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce the release of the 2017 Guide to Minerals and Materials Science Schools. This indispensable publication has information used by individuals and organizations to track mining-related academic enrollment and graduation rates, and to project employment trends. Stakeholders include recruiters (both corporate and academic), industry trade associations, professional societies, government agencies, mining companies, and students trying to decide which school is best for their chosen career.

Mining is one of a handful of sectors that is projected to add jobs at a fairly constant rate over the next 20 years. Although there has been a decline in the number of mining and mineral engineering programs at U.S. colleges and universities, there continues to be a significant number of graduates in those programs. The industry demand for qualified graduates to enter the workforce intensifies as vacancies are created by professionals reaching retirement age.

This unique SME publication contains essential information about mining engineering, materials science, metallurgical and mineral processing, and geological engineering academic programs. Data includes specific programs, faculty, enrollment and degrees conferred for undergraduates and graduates. Updated annually, the 2017 edition is now available in the SME Bookstore at smemi.personifycloud.com/PersonifyEbusiness/Default.aspx?TabID=251&productId=1500520
