Minerals Engineering Conference 2019
Kocierz, Poland, September 16-19, 2019

In 16-19 of September, 2019, the Mineral Engineering Conference 2019 (MEC 2019) took place in Kocierz, hotel “Kocierz&Spa”, Poland – small village located in Beskid Maly – a mountain region near Bielsko-Biala. This year’s edition main organizer was AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, but the Organization Committee contains also Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Silesian University of Science and Technology, Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals in Gliwice and KGHM “Polska Miedz” S.A. – main copper producer in Poland.

The Conference started on 16th of September with Plenary Session. During this session, a jubilee of 50 years of work of Professor Andrzej Luszczkiewicz from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology took place. Apart from short laudation because of this event, three very interesting speeches were presented concerning future perspectives of JSW S.A. – one of the main coal producers in Poland, new modern equipment for particles separation using optical systems as well advantages of applications of electromagnetic mills in dry grinding circuit of copper processing.

Second day was dedicated to main scientific part of the Conference. During the morning and evening sessions performed in five parts, about 30 speeches were presented. The topics of the presentations were various, including the technological aspects of mineral processing, modern solutions, mathematical modeling and optimization, monitoring, reclamation or measurements in mining. All papers were prepared professionally and were very interesting.

In the evening, a grill party was organized in “Baciarska Chata” – a place managed also by the hotel owners.

Third day started with another session of papers. 8 other papers were presented in morning session. In the afternoon, the delegates had an opportunity to participate in a trip to Zywiec Brewery – one of the most famous breweries in Poland of 200 years of history. After visit in a museum all participants could taste the fresh beer in special bar.

In the evening part, the Gala Dinner was organized in Main Hall of the hotel. During this event the official closing of the Conference took place, including the celebration of rewarding 3 best papers Authors with prizes granted by Minerals – journal published by MDPI. After it, the delegates could enjoy the evening which ended at 2 am next day.

On Thursday, 19th of September, the delegates went back to their homes after the breakfast.

All together, 80 delegates took part in the Conference. The general number of presented papers was 37. The papers will be published in IOP Conference Series Materials Science and Engineering and the best ones can be also published in extended versions in Minerals. We invite everybody for next year’s edition of MEC, which this time will be organized by Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
