PhD Scholarship  [August 11, 2019]

Location: JKMRC, University of Queensland, Australia

The aim of this project will be to explore the behaviour of the three-phase material inside a HydroFloat device in response to a range of design modifications and operating conditions. This will be achieved using a range of flow imaging techniques including positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) and neutron transmission tomography. The data thus produced will not only offer insights into the performance and behaviour of the HydroFloat, but will also represent a singularly detailed and valuable validation dataset for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of multiphase flows.

The project will be primarily experimental, but may include some CFD modelling depending on the background and interests of the student. Most of the experimental work for this project will be conducted in laboratories at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) in Brisbane, but some experiments will require international travel to partner institutions in South Africa and Europe.
