:: Kansanshi Feasibility Study Results

First Quantum Minerals has received the results of a definitive feasibility study for the first phase of its 80%-owned Kansanshi copper-gold project in Zambia. Phase one development, lasting for 16 years, will focus on open pit mining and processing of shallow oxide and mixed ores to produce approximately 60 kt/y of copper cathode and up to 70 kt/y of copper in concentrate. Gold production during this period will average 25 000 ounces per year. Phase two (nominally years 17 to 28) will focus on sulphide ores, with possible construction of a roaster to enable copper cathode production by SX/EW to continue at the 60 kt/y level. The company expects to start construction in the second quarter of 2003, with commissioning and commercial operation beginning in the fourth quarter of 2004.
