:: Jig Plant for Leeuwpan Colliery

Project management and engineering company, Dowding, Reynard and Associates (DRA) has completed a contract to supply a jig plant for the expansion of Kumba’s Leeuwpan Colliery near Delmas. The new plant will increase the annual coal production from 1.7 million tons to 2.7 million tons. The additional coal will be delivered to state owned electricity utility Eskom under a long-term contract.

The R50 million contract called for the jig and all necessary handling, screening, raw coal crushing and control equipment.

The key to optimum performance of jigs is providing a consistent feed rate, sizing and distribution into the unit. The jig plant will process 550 t/h with approximately 350 t/h of 60 x 6 mm reporting to the 4,0 m wide Batac Jig, and the balance being fine (-6 mm) material by-passing directly to product
