:: Namakwa Sands Awards R320m Contract

South African industrial company Aveng's subsidiary, Engineering and Projects Company (E+PC), has been awarded an R320-million contract for the "Project 1 000" upgrade at Namakwa Sands, an Anglo Operations' subsidiary on the west coast.

The expansion project, which will increase current feed rates for production of zircon, rutile and ilmenite at the mine, was awarded to E+PC in an open tender, and includes the total engineering design, procurement and construction-management (EPCM) services associated with the upgrade. E+PC said in a media statement that the primary concentrator plant east feed rate would increase from 580 t/h to 800 t/h and that the capacity of the primary concentrator plant west would be increased to 1 800 t/h from 1 590 t/h.

The expansion of the secondary concentrator plant will support the increased feed rates from the primary concentrator plants. Construction is set to start in May, with completion scheduled a year later. E+PC provides EPCM services in the mineral, chemicals, petroleum and industrial sectors.

"E+PC, which was formerly called Grinaker-LTA Process Engineering, was rebranded late in 2005. We did this to improve the market's understanding of its capabilities which lie upstream of our construction activities on the project value chain," said Aveng CEO Carl Grim. "The market's favourable reaction to the new identity is reflected in the company's healthy order book."
