:: The Zambian Copperbelt
A series of articles in the February 2002 issue of Mining Magazine overviews the mining and metallurgical operations of the Zambian Copperbelt.
- Bwana Mkubwa (page 71) is the cheapest copper producer on the Copperbelt, and is continuing to find more resources;
- Konkola Copper Mines (page 75) is making headway after almost two years in operation under adverse conditions;
- At Chambishi (page 82), Kvaerner E & C South Africa has recently completed work on 'Cobalt from Slag and Copper', the first major capital project undertaken in Zambia for almost 30 years;
- The tremendous potential of Nkana and Mufulira's metallurgical gem, Mopani Copper Mines (page 85) is a joint venture between Glencore International and First Quantum, with ZCCM holding 10%.
