:: Resolute Unfazed by Syama Challenges

Resolute Mining is pressing ahead with the possible acquisition of the Syama gold project in Mali despite early testwork showing roasting may be required if all of the metallurgically difficult orebody was to be exploited.

Consultant Minproc has been commissioned to study the capital and operating costs needed for both roasting and pressure oxidation of a concentrate, after simpler metallurgical processes showed promise with only specific parts of the large 5 million ounce-plus orebody.

Previous owners Randgold and BHP both unsuccessfully tried whole-of-ore roasting, while pressure oxidation is used at the metallurgically difficult Macraes operation in New Zealand.
