:: Amandelbult Concentrator Project

Anglo Platinumís Amandelbult Concentrator was commissioned by plant design and engineering company, Dowding, Reynard and Associates (DRA), on 8th April 2003, three days ahead of a very tight schedule. Situated about 100km north of Rustenburg in the North-West Province, the new concentrator at Amandelbult Section, Rustenburg Platinum Mines is currently treating a throughput of 30 000 tons of opencast UG2 ore a month.

The design of the new concentrator was based that of an existing plant commissioned by DRA for Messina Platinum Mines in 2001, with certain changes to accommodate existing facilities. DRA managed the interfacing between the new and existing plant. As managing contractor the company also designed, specified and procured necessary equipment, developed bills of quantity, hired contractors, and supervised site installation, testing and commissioning of the concentrator.

The concentrator processes ore from the existing opencast mining operations. Ore is received via the existing UG2 rail-bunker system, and the new plant makes use of existing tailings thickening, reagent make-up and concentrate handling facilities. Feed to the plant comes via a transfer conveyor from the top of the existing ROM silo into a 650t bin supplied by DRA. The company also upgraded the existing 25 000tpm concentrator and provided for the addition of an extra concentrate storage tank.

Dowding, Reynard & Associates (DRA) specialises in providing technologically advanced processing plants and engineering services. The company is regarded as an experienced contractor for PGM plant. It undertakes all aspects of a project from initial testing and piloting to final commissioning as well as plant extensions, upgrades, and process control and optimisation.
