:: Golden Star Completes Ghanaian Acquisition

Golden Star Resources has acquired the rights to the Asikuma and Mansiso prospecting licenses in Ghana from Birim Goldfields, as well as Birim's rights to receive a royalty on gold production from the adjacent Mampon property. The acquisition further consolidates the company's land position along the Ashanti trend and around the 90%-owned Bogoso/Prestea and Wassa properties. Golden Star is currently undertaking technical and environmental studies for the installation of a carbon-in-leach plant at Prestea, and for the conversion of the Bogoso plant to process refractory ores through the addition of a BIOX circuit. A carbon-in-leach plant is under construction at Wassa. Golden Star's production in Ghana, currently about 140 000 ounces per annum, is expected to increase to about 350 000 ounces per annum over the next two years as the Bogoso/Prestea expansion and Wassa project reach full production.
