:: Bwana Mkubwa Reaches New Design Capacity

First Quantum Minerals Ltd's expanded Bwana Mkubwa copper processing plant in Zambia has reached its new design capacity of 2,500 t/mth of LME-grade A copper cathode. The facility produced 2,656 t during July, and is now expected to maintain design rates. The plant, originally built to process copper tailings, was upgraded to cope with conventional oxide ore from the Lonshi mine, over the border in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The installed equipment is also capable of processing most oxide ore types found in the Copperbelt.
