:: Gekko InLine for Barrick Tanz Order

Barrick's new Tulawaka mine in Tanzania is buying an InLine Leach Reactor from Gekko Systems. The unit, an ILR100 Batch Automatic model, will treat gravity gold concentrates from a Knelson Concentrator. The order follows extensive trials that Barrick ran with a similar model at the Lawlers operation in Western Australia. Gekko's technical director, Sandy Gray, said Both Gekko's Canadian Office and Australian headquarters have also been liaising with Barrick staff over the last 18 months.

The Tulawaka project has a estimated grade of 11.54 grammes/tonne and total cash costs are forecast around US$175/ounce.

With its recent sale to Barrick's new Tanzanian mine, Gekko says the highest densities of its products are found in African countries, especially Tanzania and Ghana. "The African continent has led the trend to treat gravity gold concentrates with intensive cyanidation" said Gekko's technical director, Sandy Gray. Another InLine Leach Reactor was recently installed in Tanzania at AngloGold's Geita Mine.

Gekko equipment in Ghana is found at Bibiani, Obuasi, and Iduapriem.

There are 17 Gekko units operating in Africa at present, with an additional 13 units either installed currently or under construction in Australia.
