:: Samancor Millsell Expansion

Roche Mining (MT) spirals immediately reveal their potential by achieving higher than expected recoveries at required quality grades.

Roche Mining (MT) recently supplied 56 MG6.2 triple start spirals for Samancorís Millsell Expansion Spiral Plant in South Africa, with the first module of 28 spirals commissioned in November 2003.

John Stapelberg, Regional Sales Manager for Roche (MT) -RSA, said the module consists of a 4-stage High Grade circuit and a 3-stage Low Grade circuit: HG Rougher, HG Cleaner, HG Re-cleaner and HG Scavenger; LG Rougher, LG Cleaner and LG Scavenger in circuit. "Commissioning went smoothly with the High Grade product being on grade almost immediately and the Low Grade product a couple of days later,"said Mr Stapelberg.

The second module of 28 Spirals, identical to the first one, was commissioned in January 2004, concurrent with a new water supply circuit (new high rate thickener).

"The new water supply circuit along with Module 1 settings helped produce a quality product at a good recovery rate early on,"said Mr Stapelberg. "Since installation of the MG6.2 spirals the plant recovery steadily increased by about 5% and the silica content of the high grade Chromitesand reduced by a factor of about 10% with additional adjustment expected to improve results even further,"he said.

Excellent potential is seen for the MG6.2 spiral in the chromitesands industry for their high capacity and good flexibility.
