:: Ausmelt Signs Licensing Agreement with Young Poong Corporation

Ausmelt Limited (AET) has signed a licensing agreement with Young Poong Corporation for the construction of a new Ausmelt technology smelting furnace at Sukpo in Korea.

The new furnace will recover lead and other metals from up to 100,000 tpa of lead-bearing materials generated from Young Poong’s zinc operations. Ausmelt will receive a technology licensing fee under the licensing agreement with Young Poong.

Young Poong already operates two Ausmelt technology furnaces at Sukpo for the recovery of lead and zinc from zinc residues.

Mr Paul Abbott, Managing Director of Ausmelt, said: "We are delighted that Young Poong has chosen Ausmelt technology for its new project. Together with the Korea Zinc furnaces, there will now be 13 Ausmelt technology furnaces in Korea providing superior treatment of industrial by-products and metallurgical secondary raw materials. Korea is building a strong reputation for adopting leading edge technologies. Ausmelt’s top submerged lance smelting technology also has application to non-metallurgical waste materials and is being used in Korea by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to achieve ecological sustainability in the processing of ash material from municipal waste incinerators."
