:: AMIRA Announces new Regional Manager for Latin America
Dr Juan Daniel Silva has been appointed Regional Manager, Latin America, for AMIRA International.
Dr Silva, 42, has wide experience in technology development in both academic and industry environments.
A graduate in mine engineering from the University of Chile, he undertook post graduate studies in Paris, culminating with a PhD in geological engineering from the Mining School of Paris. He returned to Chile to join the mining research centre CIMM, working on projects for Codelco’s Chuquicamata mine, then joined Codelco’s technology development subsidiary IM2 where he spent six years developing improved mining and mine planning technologies. Most recently, he has held an executive position with E-Mining Technology.
Deming Whitman, CEO of AMIRA International, said Dr Silva’s appointment would further strengthen AMIRA’s engagement with both industry and research institutions in Latin America.
“His experience in technology development at a senior level makes him admirably qualified to spearhead AMIRA’s continued efforts to both serve our Latin American members and to harness and develop research capacities in the region," he said.
“He is a valuable addition to AMIRA’s global team."
The appointment is effective from May 12.
