:: Ausmelt wins Major Contract in Asia

Ausmelt Limited (AET) has won a major contract for a new Ausmelt technology secondary copper smelter to be constructed in the Asian region. The client has requested that its identity be withheld until it completes its internal approval processes.

Ausmelt will provide technology and design services and supply core equipment for the new smelter.

Design work will start immediately. The smelter will be designed to treat approximately 110,000 tonnes a year of copper sludges, drosses and low-grade copper scrap to produce around 28,000 tonnes a year of copper.

Ausmelt has now won eight new non-ferrous smelting projects this financial year, with combined revenues in excess of $43 million.

Ausmelt’s Managing Director, Mr Paul Abbott, said: “The consistent improvements in global metals prices, particularly for copper, stimulated an increased interest in the use of Ausmelt technology for the treatment of copper-bearing wastes. The Ausmelt process is one of the best available technologies for the recovery of metals from wastes and this project, along with the recently commissioned Dowa project in Japan, will strengthen Ausmelt’s position as the preferred technology in this growing global industry."
