The Julius Kruttschnitt Minerals Research Centre (JKMRC) is a world class provider of postgraduate education and innovative applied research in mineral processing and geometallurgy. The Centre has an outstanding international reputation as an innovator in mining and mineral processing research. It is the largest Australian research centre in this field and collaborates with major mining and mineral processing research groups worldwide.

Our goal is to develop innovations and people that lead to transformational improvement in the efficiency and environmental and social footprint of mineral processing.

We work with the minerals industry and other mining-focused groups to devise and conduct research projects that directly address their current and future challenges. We measure our impact through industry uptake of the innovations and insights we produce, and the results of our research are widely published and cited.

About This Opportunity

We are seeking an inspirational and passionate individual for this exciting opportunity of Centre Director. Reporting to the Deputy Director Production within the Sustainable Minerals Institute, the Centre Director will support the strategic and operational leadership and oversight of the academic, research and administrative activities of the Centre, in collaboration with the senior leadership team.

You will be responsible for leading the development of the academic vision and student experience, work with colleagues and postgraduates to build a vibrant research culture – including attracting competitive research funding – and with external stakeholders, industry, government departments, and the wider community to develop and foster relationships with the Centre.

Ideally, you will be an experienced and inspiring leader of world-class standing, with the capability to drive research and education excellence in an interdisciplinary context. You will have strong financial literacy/budget management, as well as managed infrastructure experience. You will be innovative, with demonstrated experience in developing, articulating, and sustaining a shared vision, facilitating the implementation of measurable outcomes. You will be an excellent communicator, with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships.

The Centre Director will foster a culture of collegiality and develop and mentor staff to ensure the Centre’s continued success, while promoting the Centre, Institute and University at a national and international level.

The Centre Director role is a full-time fixed term position for five (5) years at Academic Level E.
