![]() PostDoc: Flexibilization of Pyrometallurgical Recycling Processes [April 1, 2020] Location: Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), Germany In the context of the energy transition, there will be a strongly changing energy supply available in the future. The possibilities of using this in the energy-intensive processes of the circular economy are to be examined using computer simulations of metallurgical processes and process chains in copper metallurgy. Based on the exergetic analysis of alternative scenarios, flexibility options for the (pyrometallurgical) recycling of complex secondary raw materials are to be worked out. Selected process chains are simulated in a suitable digital platform (such as HSC) in order to determine the possibilities of making energy requirements more flexible, the secondary raw materials introduced, as well as the purity and composition of the products. To do this, the usual, mostly static process models must be dynamized. The effects of both abrupt and continuous changes in the energy supply, the feed characteristics and the process conditions should be recorded. In this way, technological weaknesses and potentials of a future circular economy can be identified and quantified. More information & how to apply
